Sharing Our Cultures
Is an educational and multicultural project in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Canada's "Racism, Stop It" Campaign, and International Poetry Day (March 21). This year's theme is GAMES. The purpose of this project is two-fold:..."
- To engage immigrant, refugee, new Canadian and international students in the process of showcasing various aspects of their culture in a public forum;
- To give you, the teacher, an opportunity of incorporating bilingual, interactive, age-grade appropriate and hands-on multicultural activities into your teaching.
It is anticipated that the outcomes of this cultural exchange would foster understanding, appreciation, and respect for all students, regardless of their cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds. In addition, it would enrich the teaching of relevant curriculum areas.
You can participate with your students online through NLTA's Virtual Teacher Centre. Your students will be required to complete the activities and obtain information about their destination of choice by using online research. They can print an individualized passport on completion of the activities. You can modify these activities for your age-grade appropriate level and curriculum outcomes in your specific subject areas. Schools throughout the province are encouraged to participate.
